Work Experience

Instructor: Mr. Don Grant
don_grant@chino.k12.ca.us

Work experience offers numerous benefits for high school students, including skill development, career exploration, and enhanced academic performance. It helps build practical skills like time management and teamwork, boosts confidence, and provides valuable networking opportunities. Students will meet once a week during their P.E. class on Wednesdays. For Work Experience questions, please reach out to Mr. Grant.

What does Work Experience Offer Students?

  • Skill Development:

Work experience provides hands-on opportunities to develop essential skills valued by employers, such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.

  • Career Exploration:

Students can explore different career paths and gain a clearer understanding of their interests and aptitudes.

  • Improved Academic Performance:

Studies suggest that students who work part-time (less than 15 hours a week) tend to perform better academically, possibly due to improved time management and responsibility.

  • Financial Literacy:

Working provides teens with the chance to earn money, learn to budget, and develop financial responsibility.

  • Increased Self-Confidence:

Successfully managing work responsibilities can boost a student's self-esteem and sense of independence.

  • Networking Opportunities:

Work experiences can connect students with professionals in their field of interest, potentially leading to mentorship or future job opportunities.

  • Resume Building:

Work experience enhances a student's resume, making them more competitive for college and future job applications.

  • Enhanced Workplace Awareness:

Students gain insights into workplace norms, expectations, and etiquette, preparing them for future careers.

  • Bridging the Gap:

Work experience helps students connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
